Countdown to Gen Con T-11 and Counting Nevermore From Smirk and Dagger

We know well the story of Poe’s Raven. But what came before?

Is it bird – or something more, forced to walk the earth in darkness evermore? You may yet learn the answer first hand. For in Nevermore, those who fall become transformed, turned to ravens, unable to win, as they struggle to regain their human form – yet able to bring doom to others. Will you rise to power or simply be Nevermore?

Nevermore is a casual-style, card-drafting game in which you quickly build your hand each round, collecting cards you want and poisoning your opponent’s hand by passing along cards you think they can’t use. Whoever holds the most of a given suit, gains the power of that suit to attack, heal, acquire Light or Shadow magicks and score victory points.

Player ‘transformation’ replaces player elimination, keeping everyone in the game until the last moment, yet still rewards players who have performed better during the game. Will you transform all your rivals into ravens — or can they regain their human form in time to score enough victory to win?

So why am I looking forward to this game? Setting Edgar Alan Poe aside, it’s casual and it involves drafting.  Being a Magic player it’s so fun to draft without the pressure of making the right pick.  It goes deeper than that though, drafting is a mechanic where I feel there is so much more  to consider. You can be friendly or out right mean.  You can even just pick the best card every time, or in a casual game , just be absurd.  I just think casual drafting is going to be so fun.

Besides, player transformation instead of elimination sounds like a great idea.  I really can’t wait to see it.

Smirk and Dagger Games will be at Booth 1753.
